Translink's Back!
13 October 2003
Translink marked National Back Care Awareness Week (13th – 18th October) by inviting regular trainer Angela Lalor, a specialist physiotherapist from Green Park Health Care Trust to pay a visit to Bangor Bus and Rail Centre to advise staff on posture, exercises and stretches all of which are aimed at preventing back injuries.
Angela has been working with Translink’s Health and Safety Department for over nine months to develop a programme of training for staff to raise ‘Back Awareness’.
Tony Trethowan; Translink’s Safety Development Officer explained “Internationally and locally, it’s an acknowledged fact that back injuries form a large percentage of work-related injuries. Translink carry out risk assessments on an ongoing basis, through this it became apparent that training was needed to raise awareness of the hazards and precautions to take to prevent injuries. So we set about putting a training programme together to educate staff which involved Green Park Health Care Trust as the key player”.
He concluded “It’s a delight to work with Angela Lalor. She’s wonderful with staff and highly respected both for her expertise and professionalism.”
